Victories of the Heart’s WISDOM YEARS WEEKEND
Steve and Alan co-lead the Wisdom Years Weekend for men age 50 and over each October under the auspices of Victories of the Heart, NFP, at a retreat center about two hours from Chicago. Incorporating both small and large group experiences, as well as music, humor, and good fellowship, the weekend is designed to help men of age explore the past influences in their lives that are affecting them today, where they are now in their lives, where they want to go with the rest of their lives (and with whom), and how to get there. It also provides an excellent opportunity for participants to forge and maintain close friendships with each other that last beyond the weekend, and a follow-up group opportunity is offered. The cost of the weekend is $690, but scholarships are available, and no man is ever turned away because of inability to pay. To find out more about the weekend, and to register, go to:
The kinds of actions or inactions that can result in malpractice often are related to personal issues and patterns affecting other aspects of a lawyer’s life, including such challenges as depression, relational difficulties, substance abuse, and avoidance of distressing feelings and situations. Alan and Gayle have made presentations and facilitated discussions about these issues before the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois, as well as at the Chicago Bar Association's Committees on Attorney Malpractice and Professional Responsibility.
The notion of retiring often involves unique issues for lawyers. Alan has recently presented on the subject of the psychology of retirement at the annual convention of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
